Not an authentic Cornish pasty. It's good, don't get me wrong. We tested the Cornish pasties. Now, I grew up in the gold country and grew up eating Cornish pasties, I know how they should be. They should be able to be hand held. These were too big for that. The meat should be bite size and tender. The meat chunks were too big and slightly too tough to chew easily. I'd go back again but only because Marshall's Pasties in Grass Valley is an hour away and Pasty Shack is convenient.
Having originally immigrated here from Cornwall, this is the closest I’ve come to finding a delicious traditional homemade Cornish pasty this side of the Atlantic. Well done!
Love this place! First discovered them via a local bar that buys their pasties here for their menu (this bar takes them to a yummy level). I have since gone into Pasty Shack several times and tried different flavors. Love their homemade taste - anytime I am craving a warm pot roast dinner, I stop in here and pick up a couple Cornish pasties for me and my love. Best way to eat them? I like mine with brown gravy, and salt and pepper buttered peas in the side - really takes the flavors to the next level
I had some tasty treats here. It was a wonderful experience.
For what this place is, it's perfect. It's not fine dining by any stretch. The inside of the place is small, holding only four small tables. The pasties are amazing! The crust is unbelievably light and flakey. The filling is steamy and flavorful. I had a Bavarian pasty, which has ground beef, cabbage, and bell pepper. My companion had a vegan pasty, all vegetable filling. Whatever spices they use made both taste great. We each got the optional gravy, which is vegan. It's a British brand called Bisto. We also got a side of coleslaw, which was good (Solomon's Deli in Davis has the best coleslaw I've ever had, and this wasn't quite that good), and canned soda, Pellegrino. The service is extremely fast. You can grab a pasty and go for a quick meal. We decided to eat there, and were the only customers from about 12:30 - 1:00 on a Saturday. I sure hope they do more business on weekdays. Go if you can, because it would be a shame if a place this great went out if business!
